Another great location, but again got stuck in a bit of a hole. Hills all around me, stuck in the lowest spot.
The YL
helped set up the antenna and spent some time filling out crosswords, soaking up the rays, trying to get the HT spotted on APRS, and reading, while I tried as hard as I could to get up to 10 QSOs. I called for a little while on 20m SSB but only got a single call back, all the other voice QSOs were hunted.
Out of sheer desperation I called CQ over CW for a little more and got a bunch of calls back and apart from a German and French station everybody slowed down enough for me to copy their callsigns, I even got a (fifth ever) US station in the log. Some callsigns still trip me up, ie S51RU
from Slovenia, I kept writing down an H (....)
instead of a 5 (.....)
because callsigns are two letters, number and then more (mostly) letters right? Wrong apparently!
The CW community seems pretty welcoming, I just need to find more time to practice.
