After a failed activation in this park on the way back on 12 April, I had a mail conversation with PA4PA
and we decided to meet up at this park on the Support your Parks-weekend organised by POTA.
Instead of making contacts we spent a lot of time talking about our POTA experiences, him being a seasoned activator and hunter, and me being only a few months into the hobby at all. We talked about all kinds of technical details: antennas, antenna types, propagation, etc. It was definitely a learning experience for me.
We set up two of his Near Vertical Incidence Skywave-antennas (a 40m and a 30m dipole) and got some park to park contacts in the log. We didn’t bother claiming a frequency. We also set up a park-to-park contact within the same park using 100 mW into a dummy load and 1W into an antenna.
The “please hold for second operator” got old really quickly so after 10 QSOs I just listened in and we spoke some more about all the other technical aspects of the hobby.
After a while we moved to NL-0218, a new park for PA4PA and he set up his trailer hitch quarter-wave whip antenna with laptop and radio in a few minutes and beeped out 10 contacts in a short little while. I went home as it was dinnertime and PA4PA went and activated NL-0029 too (I’ve as of yet never been).
